I started rapping when I was some 14/15 years old, when I was in high-school, back in my home town- Imphal, Manipur. I’ve been writing ever since, performing here and there. But musically, I must say, the journey really began when I first came to Bangalore, five years back. This city gave me everything I needed to grow, both as an artist, and also, as an entertainer.
Inspiration behind your music?
I make music on almost anything. Art, Fashion, Love, war, hate, party, women, you name it.
Basically, I rap mostly about the things, situations, emotions or experiences that I’ve been through, be it good experience or bad ones. I try my best, to give my listeners the same feeling, or emotions that I went through while going through these experiences.
I’m also trying to spread happiness and positivity through my music.
To me, rap is not just about big words, witty punch lines or multi-syllable rhymes.., it is an ART and I’m trying to bring out both the lyrical and the artistic/creative sides of it in my music.
My biggest inspiration is my Dad, the most hard-working, cool headed person I know. Musically, Kanye West, Jay-Z, and Drake, are some of the artists that are relevant to me right now.
Any memories of your musical journey which you want to share?
There are a lot of memories…since it’s been a long and eventful journey. I can’t possibly talk about all of them right now but some really unforgettable memories would be -
*Performing for the first time here in Bangalore, at a club named Fusion Lounge to an amazing crowd, and even more amazing response. It was the first time I felt like a star!
*Meeting and opening for Dj Mark Da Spot, the then official Dj for Justin Timberlake, on his India Tour.
*Winning Vh1 rap Battles in Fusion Lounge.
*Performing for an extremely crazy, wild, Sold-out crowd at F-Bar, New Delhi, to mention a few.
Rap is a new thing in India so what is the response of the people to this?
Rap in India is not new at all. The thing is, it has been always under-rated and (or) over-looked. But, I can definitely see it exploding in some 2-3 years of time, hopefully, let’s give it some time and for all the fans that are already supporting the genre, thank you all so much! Let’s make this even bigger!
What is your practice regime?
I really don’t have a definite practice regime.
Basically, all I think about, or do almost 90% of the time is rap and Hip-Hop. I think, talk, eat, and dream in “Hip-Hop”, literally. It’s almost like a language. I really don’t give it too much effort, it just comes naturally. I think if you got it in you, you don’t ever have to really “practice”…. all I do is be the channel and just let it flow.
You want to share your thought or feelings about the wining of “9XO I am ON” contest?
First of all, thank you so much, Songdew and 9XO, for such an opportunity. It is an honor to be part of this great initiative of yours. And, on behalf of all the indie artists, I would like to sincerely thank you all for such an initiative. It really means a lot!
And, I really don’t have the words to describe how happy I am right now to have won something like this… and as a Creator of music and(or) art, I am really grateful that I can finally get the world(or at least, a part of it) to see/hear my creation(s). I just hope you all like it.
