Reviving the glory of Indian Poetry through contemporary music - Chinmayi Tripathi
Songdew recently announced the launch of 'Music & Poetry Project' by Chinmayi Tripathi – an initiative to re-embrace the beauty of Hindi poetry and literature through contemporary music. The Project is the first step towards reviving the glory of Hindi Poetry and making music lyrically rich through poetry.
“I remember that it was last year summer when I conceived the idea of singing my favourite poets. I was chilling with my friends when somebody mentioned that how come there are no other ancient or modern poets who have become a cult like Kabir. Then someone said 'Nirala' ( I think it was me) and one of my friends said "who"?
We all laughed then but while on my way back I started thinking how I used to love reading poetry of Bachchan, Mahadevi Verma and Nirala while in school and how slowly I became distant to it in the mad rush of life... That's when I thought if I could compose some of the poems of my favourite poets into songs and can sing them, it will be really cool.” says Chinmayi.
The album is a work of 10 select poems by legendary poets, such as Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, Harivash Rai Bachchan, Nirala, Mahadevi Verma, Anamika, Dharmaveer Bharti, Shivmangal Singh Suman, Bhavaniprasad Mishra & Maithilisharan Gupt beautifully woven together in eclectic fusion of classical, folk and contemporary music. While the album has been officially launched on 16th September at the Music & Poetry Festival, CP, New Delhi, the first song has hit the digital space on 21st September.
The initiative has got many renowned independent artists involved like Susmit Sen (former Indian Ocean guitarist), Sharat Chandra Shrivastav (former member of Parikrama), Baiju Dharmajan (Kochi-based guitarist) and Deepak Ram (South African flautist & composer of Indian origin) who volunteered their support to the project by Tripathi. The album has also intrigued interest of many brands like Goodyear, Songdew and government organisations such as NDMC to support the efforts of the artist.
