Music Review: Komla Gan Thangte by The Wishess
What was your first thought after knowing the name of the album? Maybe that it's going to be a cultural and folksy recital- Right? But that isn't the case. After all, The Wishess is an alternative rock band and their biggest concern is to satisfy your urge for explicit rock musical performances. Based in Imphal, the band was the first one to open for America's legends Steelheart in their first ever show in India. They've been involved in the field for nearly a decade now (since 2010) and their rock and energetic compositions are literally amazing. With so much passion for music, the band always comes up with something new. This time it's Komla Gan Thangte and it's nothing like anything you've previously heard.
It's a rock ballad and also the official theme song for the 15th Orange Festival, Tamenglong. Komla Gan Thangte itself means time for orange festival. The track is full of joy and enthusiasm, capable of eliminating all the negativity surrounding you. It begins with bass tunes in the background which becomes confluent with the drum kicks followed by the self explanatory vocals. While most of us don't even know what Komla Gan Thangte means, it still has the potential to stir you up. Well, majority of the track is in English, so you won't need a translator at all. The lyrics are really simple, and Bishikanta has expressed them very clearly in his penetrative deep voice. The background music is full of prolific beats of drums, guitars and bass, creating a very distinct tune. The song releases a positive vibe and has the potential to keep you hooked for hours. Yes, you'll feel the urge to listen to it again and again. Very rarely do we find a song that's fun, uplifting and satisfying at the same time. This is the song we would recommend you to listen anytime- be you at a party or a traffic jam. All you need to do is to put on your headphones, play the song and just rock on.
