Lavanya Rajesh Raises The Bar With Her Latest Single!
Lavanya Rajesh’s musical journey began, as she puts it -“in her mother’s womb.” At a very young age she used to be a big source of entertainment for family and friends when she used to sing and dance for them. Even before she could understand and form words with her mouth, she was belting out tunes. “I used to make up words which were pure gibberish but I would create songs- I would literally sing Bengali songs without knowing a single word of the language but it would definitely sound like a Bengali song “- she laughs.
Lavanya started her formal music training by learning Hindustani Semi classical, Indian Light and Kathak at the renowned Sangeet Samiti school of music and dance in Allahabad and further enhanced her singing under the tutelage of Sri Shivram Kathak Ji. From a very young age, she started performing on stage for various functions and fund raisers and won best vocalist awards in many inter city, inter state and inter college competitions. She continued to become the youngest ever person to be crowned Miss Chennai and became an integral part of the film industry and she performed at many functions like Film fare awards, Citadel extravaganza, Sahara Mrs. India etc.
In 2006, she went on to win the title at Mrs. India World competition. An exemplary combination of pulchritude, talent and showmanship, she has collaborated in music with many singers all over the world personally and professionally and has performed on stage for many events in India, Canada and USA. She is also a popular radio artiste and her songs have been featured time and again by different radio stations in Canada, USA and India.
She has composed and written 3 songs and which are available in over 40 online platforms like ITunes, Apple music, Google play, Amazon, Spotify etc.
Music is no longer just an audio experience, it is an audio visual experience”, she says, “ People are watching the singer, connecting with him/her so an individual’s personality is as important as his/her voice. In this large pool of talented singers, the ability to connect with your audience can be the game changer.”
As an artist she believes that her strength lies in her ability to connect with her audience and she believes she is a PERFORMER, not just a singer.
Music, for Lavanya, is her IBADDAT ( worship ) and in her quest to give back to the art form she shares her knowledge with young performers through her music school SUR. “ I am constantly learning”, she adds, “ the learning never stops. I love to study the styles of Asha Bhonsle, Shreya Ghoshal and Shankar Mahadevan. They are like text books for artists like me.”
Lavanya feels that music is such a blessing for her because she will be leaving behind a legacy in her small way as she aptly puts it-
I may not be around for long
But my music will thrive
In the melody of my song
I will always stay alive.
