Baiju Dharmajan on Moham Release
Tell us how this new song was born, when and where did you get the idea of this song?
Actually this is song is a guitar rendition of the song “moham kondujaan” from 1980 Malayalam movie Shesham Kazhchayil. The song is originally composed by Johnson Master, one of my greatest musical inspirations. I was recording a new track for an upcoming collaboration of mine, and somewhere in the process, I got stuck and happened to start playing this song Moham. It sounded alright to my ears, so I thought to myself, “Why not record this?” So this song happened accidentally.
What does the title of the song “Moham” signify?
Moham means desire. This song is about love/affection and in certain portions, also a bit about fantasy.
How long did it take you to compose and create this new song?
Ya actually this song is not composed by me .For the recording 2-3 hours maximum and it took another 4-5 hours for mixing and mastering.
What makes this song special to you? Are there any memories attached to the making of this song?
Actually all these Malayalam film songs are connected to my childhood memories. They take me to the days when I used to play with various Ganamela troupes.
Is there a definite technique as to how you develop and work out a new song?
Ya actually, I’ve treated this song very differently from the original one. I’ve recorded this song outside my jam room with my accoustic guitar. So if you listen closely to the track you can hear the bird sounds and other ambient sounds. And you know, composing a new song is totally different its depends on the theme, concept or emotion of the song some times I compose a song from a simple chord progression, some times you get an idea from a riff or a lead part..but everything is depends on your mood and the situation you are in.
