Then Arvind tried a few lineups, until this lineup was done. However regardless of all the line up changes, the Music of the band has evolved a lot where every member has contributed for good in his own way.
Independent music is still not considered a secure career in India, how did you deal with the conventional thought process?
Independent music consists of mainly 3 kinds of people
a) Short timers, who would do music just for the sake of it, then quit.
b) Opportunists, who would adapt themselves in any commercial scenario in order to make ends meet.
c) People who believe in their music, and are determined to continue, regardless of whatever comes in their way.
Hundred Octane falls in the 3rd category.
What is the inspiration behind your music?
Inspirations are different for us all, but as it is said that original music is just minced meat of all the music a person has ever heard. Though we as a band try to focus on Social issues, and experiences from our past and put them into our music.
Who are some of the artists who have inspired your style of music?
From Uriah Heep, Grand Funk Rail Road, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd to Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Led Zeppelin and the list goes on.
Which are some of the most memorable performances of yours so far?
The initial stages when rock concerts were a ritual in every college and universities was the time this band can never forget. The band also recently organized "Rock For Child Rights" concerts in association with CRY and HT, This two day music festival was all about people celebrating the music that they love while at the same time contributing towards making the world a better place for children.
What do you think about the changing scenario of Independent music in India?
It’s developing real fast, but is missing a STRONG HOLD OF BROTHERHOOD amongst musicians. Bands here would never ever cover another Indian band, which shows an utmost disrespect, though the music qualities of musicians of our country are no doubt par excellence.
What are some of the changes/ developments?
Social Media has really helped music a lot in terms of promotions and reaching out to your fans.
What gives you more satisfaction as a musician- creating new music or performing or jamming?
We think all of them are equally important for a musician. Regular Jamming will definitely help the band to get fluent and prompt in whatever they play, also new ideas will always strike you while jamming, which leads to creation of new and good music. However Performing can give the utmost feeling of joy wherein one can showcase all the hard work put behind by rocking the venue with their talent.
What is your practice regime? How much do you practice on daily basis?
We have our own Jam Pad with all the equipment needed and The Band Practices 4 days in a week, with a 3-4 hours session. On a lighter note we do party a lot together after we jam.
What would you like to say to some of the young, budding artists/bands who want aspire to become a musician like you?
Hard work will definitely pay-off someday, if not through cash, at-least with a sense of personal satisfaction for having done the best creatively that they could.
