What does the title of the song Ajnabi signify?
Ajnabi can be interpreted in two ways. As the lyrics is about talking to a stranger and asking questions about life, love and time – it can be a journey in this world of strangers, other can be the journey within, with a stranger within you.For me it was the later one.
How long did it take you to compose and create this new song?
I wrote initial two verses and picked up my guitar and it was composed. Then I added the last verse on Zindagi after almost a year or so. May be it took me a year to get the answer about life.
What makes this song special to you? Are there any memories attached to the making of this song?
To be honest every song is special for every musician. So is Ajnabi to me. It’s my journey, my experiences, my highs and lows of life and a lot more than that may be.
There are many memories attached to it, not just in making of this song but the emotion behind it. My family has seen a lot of ups and down when I was in teens. And this is what I learnt. Even while recording the song, there were bonds, got stronger with my band members. There were agreements, disagreements, doing things, undoing, redoing. What I enjoyed most is that we all had one intention. I might just come with a song on this whole thing, it was a journey.
I remember when I performed this song 4 years back in Sahmat, everyone received it very well. Friends supported with open arms. I feel blessed.
Is there a definite technique as to how you develop and work out a new song?
Well, for me music is not about a formula, I am not a ‘learnt’ musician. I play what I like. I don’t have a fixed grammer to it. I Pick up my guitar and lock myself in my room, that’s all I do, rest everything happens.
Any Message to your fans?
I think now the audience is much aware of music. My fans and friends have always supported me in my live shows. I need their love and support for my album too. I can only do what I am doing honestly, and total dil se.
